Types of selfie lamps. Functional features and characteristics of Irisk selfie ring.
According to their technical capabilities, ring selfie lamps are divided by the number of LEDs, operating mode options, and the possibility of additional effects during the photography process. As well as charging features (built-in battery, USB charging or use of AA batteries). A common property for all models is the creation of an expressive glare effect, similar to coatings with the “cat eye” effect. This additional interesting feature of selfie lamps visually attracts attention when viewing photos of your manicure.
Among selfie lamps aimed at the level of amateur nail photography, products from the Irisk brand take pride of place. What are the advantages and characteristics of the Irisk selfie ring that make it so indispensable when shooting?

Types of lamps
What types of manicure dryers are there? Based on the type of light source, manicure lamps are usually divided into the following types:
- UV or ultraviolet lamps for nails, devices of this type were the first to appear on the market. Today, UV drying lamps powered only by fluorescent lamps are rarely used. This is due to the rather long drying process. In addition, UV lamps have a limited service life and are characterized by high energy consumption. Light bulbs will need to be changed approximately once every six months. However, UV lamps for manicure allow you to work with various types of coatings. They are capable of drying gel polish, biogel, gel and so on. The polymerization speed depends on the thickness of the layer, on average it is 2-4 minutes.
- LED nail lamp is powered by LEDs. They are characterized by a long service life, economical consumption, and are suitable for many coatings. The drying speed usually does not exceed 60 seconds. However, LED lamps for drying gel polish are not suitable for hard gels, for example, those used for nail extensions. LED drying lamps allow you to save polymerization time, and therefore the manicure procedure. However, due to the high rate of hardening, a burning sensation often occurs during the drying process. You can get rid of unpleasant sensations by removing your hands from the lamp for a few seconds. Additionally, some LED drying lamps provide the ability to switch the power.
- CCFL lamps operate from fluorescent light sources with a cold cathode coil. It does not heat the material during the drying process, which means that such devices avoid burns on the nails; they are suitable for working even with weakened, thinned or sensitive nail plates. Replacement lamps last twice as long as regular fluorescent lamps.
Today, ultraviolet or LED lamps for manicure are rarely used. They have almost been replaced by hybrid devices that combine several light sources. LED+UV and LED+CCFL lamps are available on the market. Combined devices combine several types of light sources. It is worth noting that all manicure lamps are absolutely safe. They do not emit light or waves harmful to the skin and nails.
Lamp power: which one to choose?
Have you decided on the type of lamp? Now let’s focus on power, because there are devices on the market with technical characteristics from 9 to 90 W.
The optimal power is considered to be 48 W (and higher), and here's why:
- the lower the power, the longer the polymerization time of the material;
- if you apply the coating in a thick layer, it may not harden and wrinkle;
- Since some gel polishes are highly pigmented, low-power lamps may not dry them.
Why then are 9 W devices needed, you ask? It's all about their size! Since they are compact, they are convenient to take with you on any trip. It is important to choose the right material and not apply it in a thick layer.

What is the difference between UV and LED lamps?
Advantages and disadvantages of UV lamp
Among the advantages of the device:
- low power consumption;
- affordable price;
- wide model range.
The disadvantages include:
- short service life and its dependence on the frequency of switching on;
- the presence of mercury in light bulbs (there is a risk of breaking, requires maximum care when disposing of a non-working product);
- failure of one light bulb leads to deterioration of drying;
- noticeable heating, which, if used incorrectly, leads to burning of the nails and overheating of the device body;
- dependence on voltage drops;
- danger to the eyes due to pulsating light radiation;
- polymerization takes longer than with other devices.
Advantages and disadvantages of LED lamps
They have many advantages:
- coating drying speed;
- barely noticeable heating of the nails and skin, eliminating the risk of burns;
- durability (a high-quality LED lamp will last up to 100,000 hours);
- low power consumption;
- if 1-2 LED elements break, the quality of polymerization does not decrease;
- safety of use for eyes and health in general;
- Due to its small size, it is an excellent option for transportation.
There are also disadvantages:
- professional models for salons are expensive;
- LED devices do not dry all coatings (for example, they do not polymerize solid acrylic gels).
How to choose
What types of table lamps for manicure are there?
Table lamps differ for different reasons: power, type of light elements, set of functions, design. Which one is better to buy depends on the personal needs of the master and the place of activity (in the salon or at home).
Criterias of choice
Purpose
To avoid making mistakes when choosing, you should decide what the lamp is for: to speed up the drying of varnishes or just to illuminate the working surface of the manicure table. As a rule, a professional needs both types.
Light source, drying technology
The table lamp for manicure is simple, consists of a leg and a shade with a built-in light bulb, designed with the ability to direct the light in the required direction. The following types of lamps are used:
- Incandescent lamps are inexpensive, get very hot, produce a dull yellow light, tire your eyesight, and do not last long.
- A fluorescent (energy-saving) light bulb is available with a yellow, neutral or cool glow. It is economical, lasts a long time, does not cause eye strain, but is more expensive.
- LED lamps are currently the best options. They are compact, do not heat up, and provide bright, intense light. Popular models of LED table lamps can adjust the color temperature. They are not cheap, but this is not a minus, as they guarantee a long service life, low energy consumption and safety for eye health.
- A halogen lamp also provides bright illumination, close to natural, operates for a long time, but is inferior to LED lamps in efficiency.
Models for drying varnish are a closed structure with a central hole, inside of which there are light elements. They work using different technologies:
- ultraviolet radiation;
- gas;
- LEDs;
- hybrid combination, for example LEDs and UV lamps.
LED devices have also gained popularity in this category. In addition to the advantages of LED lamps mentioned above, they dry the coating in 25–30 seconds.
Design, type of fastening
A table lamp for manicure should be stable, take up little space, and not interfere with work.
What to pay attention to:
- does the lampshade unfold, changing the lighting angle;
- in what directions does the leg rotate (up, down, to the sides);
- how the lamp is attached to the tabletop.
A popular mount among craftsmen is a clamp mount, as it holds the lamp securely and the body does not fall. To secure it, the manicure table must have a free edge.
If mobility of a table lamp is required, a model on a stand is preferable.
The clothespin also allows you to easily move the table lamp depending on your needs, while at the same time the fixation is not as strong as with a clamp.
Other recommendations for selection
There are two important technical characteristics that eliminate visual fatigue. This is the ability to change color temperature in a wide range (from 2700 to 6800 K) and the light color rendering index, which should be above 90.
Cool white LED lamps are the ideal solution for those who do nails. They do not generate much radiation, do not emit heat, and do not create glare.
The extended cord makes the job much easier.
Low energy consumption saves money.
The weight and dimensions of the lighting fixture are significant in cases where manicure services are provided while traveling to clients’ homes.
The good thing about complete equipment is that it eliminates the need for additional costs.
In addition, a table lamp for manicure should be environmentally friendly, ergonomic and aesthetically pleasing.
Environmental friendliness means the absence of mercury, recycling of elements without harming the environment. Typical for LEDs.
Good ergonomics are the dimensional parameters of the lamp and the ability to transform.
A beautiful table lamp will decorate the living room. Since it is used for several hours every day, too bright the color of the case begins to negatively affect the retina after three months, so it is better to choose traditional calm colors (white, black, silver). In this case, a matte surface is preferable, since the light from the light bulb first falls on the base, the leg, and only then is reflected. The rebound of rays from the shiny stand harms the crystal and can reduce vision by several diopters in six months. Therefore, similar requirements for matte finish apply to the countertop.
Selfie ring on your phone – all the advantages of an ideal gift.
- This device has a universal mount that allows you to attach your lamp to anything (including a tablet, laptop, any touch phone).
- The selfie lamp advantageously illuminates your manicure at the time of taking a photo, producing high-quality images and unusually realistic color rendering in accordance with the highest requirements and at any time of the day.
- When working with it, you get photographs with clearly defined shadows and voluminous soft light.
- It helps to capture the most imaginative manicure without losing a single shade.
- This is an ideal budget option for photographic examples of the work of manicurists for a personal portfolio - all those who so value high-quality photos and beautiful light.

How to properly dry your nails in a lamp
Before using for the first time, read the instructions from the manufacturer. Check what types of materials the device is used for.
Press the power button. Some models have a sensor. It will turn on the device as soon as you place your hand or foot inside.
If there is a timer, set the time specified by the manufacturer. The base, colored shellac and finish are dried for different times. Also focus on the power of the device: the lower it is, the longer the polymerization lasts. If there is no timer, check your watch.
After coating, place your fingers inside. In most cases, the material is polymerized according to the principle:
- 4 fingers of one hand;
- 4 fingers of the other hand;
- 2 thumbs (to prevent the coating from dripping onto the side rollers).
In larger devices, both handles are dried at the same time.
Dry your feet one by one and paint all your toes at once. Do not touch the material until it hardens.
Palm rests are often removable (retractable or magnetic). The special dimples for the fingers are especially convenient - it makes it easier to relax your hand during polymerization. To use the device for pedicure, remove the backing. If feet are provided, attach them to the bottom.
Remove the plug from the socket after completing the procedures.
