The procedure for strengthening and extending nails using biogel is becoming increasingly popular and in demand. This technique was first tested in the 80s of the last century, and today every company producing nail plate care products has its own line of biogels. What is the secret of such massive interest in biogel coating? First of all, in its composition. Biogel is a plastic material containing exclusively natural ingredients - tree resin, organic protein, calcium compounds and vitamins. Thanks to this, the drug perfectly allows oxygen to pass through, nourishes and restores the surface of the nail, and when working with it you will not be irritated by unpleasant “chemical” odors. In addition, biogel is recognized as a hypoallergenic product, that is, it is suitable for absolutely everyone.
In order for your nails to look well-groomed and as natural as possible, manicurists advise using biogels of various textures, densities, degrees of transparency and colors. Depending on the type of enamel, natural gel can be used as:
- base for manicure (transparent gel) - to level the plate and hide minor nail defects;
- modeling (can be of different shades) - to give shape;
- finishing layer – protects the nail from external damage, adds shine and strength.
We have compiled a short review of biogels from the most famous manufacturing companies, whose products can be purchased in domestic professional cosmetics stores. When compiling the rating, we took into account such criteria as ease of use, cost-effectiveness, durability, aesthetic appeal and, of course, real reviews from women who care about the beauty and health of their nails.

Pros and cons of covering nails with biogel
Biogel based on natural ingredients has a large number of advantages and disadvantages over other products used in modeling the nail plate:
- nails are not damaged by the coating, the gel has a caring and restorative effect on the nail plates;
- During the extension procedure there is no unpleasant odor, which is typical for acrylic;
- to remove the coating there is no need to file the nail, the biogel dissolves under the influence of special compounds, which makes the procedure for removing it as comfortable as possible;
- coating the plates to strengthen them even without any design looks very attractive - the hands look well-groomed, there is no feeling of artificiality;
- the composition evens out the surface of the nail, so that the varnish lies on top in a beautiful, even layer;
- the composition can be “worn” all the time, without interruptions, which is how it clearly differs from acrylic;
- the material allows air to pass through, and therefore the fabrics underneath “breathe” and do not deform.
However, due to the characteristics of its composition, biogel also has some disadvantages:
- the strength of the coating is not as high as when using other materials;
- the cost of the procedure itself is slightly higher due to the characteristics of the product.

What is the difference between biogel and gel polish? What's better?
Both biogel and gel polish are used to strengthen nails. Both products belong to gel-like coatings, but there are a number of differences between them:
- After drying, the gel polish acquires a solid structure, and the biogel becomes elastic;
- The duration of the procedure when working with gel polish is 15-25 minutes, with biogel 40-50;
- unlike biogel, gel polish does not allow nail extension;
- the average thickness of the biogel layer is 2 mm, and the gel polish is 1 mm;
- When wearing gel polish, correction is necessary.
But the most significant difference between these products is the composition. Biogel contains more natural ingredients.
This characteristic affects not only the process of healing nails, but also the cost of the product (procedures using gel polish are cheaper).
It is better to choose biogel as a strengthening agent, and gel polish for decorative design.
However, many craftsmen effectively use both materials in their work.
Procedures for strengthening nails at home
To strengthen your nails with gel, you will need to prepare the following materials and tools:
- buff;
- file;
- napkins;
- disinfectant;
- dehydrator;
- primer;
- biogel;
- Ultraviolet lamp.
You should only work with sterilized instruments. If you have no experience using such materials, you should sign up for a free session, which are periodically held in salons. Materials must be purchased from reliable stores.
A gel that does not require the use of a UV lamp is suitable for strengthening nails at home. However, this procedure is not recommended for nail diseases such as psoriasis or fungal infections. Another option is to try Smart Enamel varnish.
Use at home
If you stock up on a set of biogels and an ultraviolet lamp, you can extend and correct your nails at home. For the procedure you will need:
- soft buff (grinding block);
- 1 or 2 primers (base for coating, as recommended by the manufacturer);
- biogel;
- finish gel (for fixing);
- brush;
- liquid to remove sticky layer;
- UV lamp;
- decorations (optional).
Materials can be purchased at a specialty store or nail salon. Application is done as follows:
- 1. Wipe your hands with an antiseptic, then treat the cuticle with an orange (or just a wooden) stick and correct the shape of your nails.
- 2. Polish the nail plate with a buff.
- 3. Apply 1 or 2 primers in sequence. Some manufacturers recommend the first for degreasing, plus the second to improve adhesion. Drying time according to instructions.
- 4. Apply biogel to the nails, moving from the free edge to the base, not reaching the cuticle 1.5-2 mm. Seal the free edge and heat with a UV lamp to dry.
- 5. If necessary, coat 2 or 3 times without removing the sticky layer.
- 6. If the nail turns out to be uneven, remove the sticky layer with a degreaser (or nail polish remover without acetone) and carefully polish the surface.
- 7. Apply finishing gel and remove the sticky layer again. Treat the cuticle with oil, and the manicure is ready.
You can easily use this simple modern manicure technique at home, decorate your nails, help a friend, and even make money.

How to remove biogel
To remove the gel, which at the time of application needs to be dried under the rays of a UV lamp, you need to purchase a special remover, and also prepare 10 small pieces of regular foil.
The removal process is done as follows:
- If the helium layer is dense enough , then you need to sand the surface a little using a buff (a rectangular delicate file), which will give it porosity and roughness.
- Next, apply remover to a napkin/cotton pad and apply it to the nail, securing it with foil. The result will be something like a cocoon. Leave for 15 minutes.
- Then remove the softened material using a pusher/scraper (a tool that acts as a spatula).
- If there is a need, you can apply the buff treatment again.
This is the basic principle of removing gel, but it is worth considering that material from different manufacturers is removed with varying difficulty.
Why doesn't biogel stick to nails?
Biogels have good tenacity and thanks to this they are worn on nails for a long time without losing their appearance. However, some factors can affect the stability of the coating, leading to premature detachments. This can happen for the following reasons:
- the coating application technology is violated, the surface of the natural nail is poorly processed;
- a layer of gel entered the cuticle, which is why it began to rise;
- low quality of the material itself.
Some biogels do not stick to nails because they simply are not suitable for a particular person. If the material is of high quality and the procedure follows all the rules, but the coating still peels off quickly, you should try applying a composition from another manufacturer.
Which product to choose for home use
The nail industry provides a whole range of products that help protect your nails and give them the desired design.
- Transparent biogel is designed to strengthen the nail plate and treat cracks. Due to its not very intense shine, it is used as a base under the main layer. It takes two minutes for the layer to dry.
- Colored biogel is used as an independent coating. It holds up better and doesn't crack. Apply in two layers, so it takes longer to dry. For home use, it is recommended to purchase a set of shades.
- Therapeutic biogel from the manufacturer EL Corazon is convenient because it does not require exposure to a UV lamp, just like the Smart Enamel Strengthener. In terms of characteristics, it is closer to the usual varnish. It is worth considering that it lasts up to 5 days. Removes with nail polish remover.
- UV biogel is designed to protect nail plates from direct sunlight, so it is used mainly in the summer. The product prevents thinning of nails and cares for cuticles. It is applied as a finishing layer and dried for 40 seconds.
- Hard biogel is used for extensions. Its dense structure strengthens nails. This material is used as an independent coating.
- Sculptural biogel has a natural shade and is used for aquarium design. It contains silk extract, which adds strength and elasticity. The product strengthens long nails and helps moisturize them.
- Biogel for fixing manicure Royal Sealer adds a glossy shine. Due to the bluish tint, the composition is used to eliminate yellowness. Transparent material is used as a finishing layer for French manicure.
