Features of baby boomer manicure

Baby boomer manicure is an elegant combination of gradient and French manicure. The technique owes its name to the generation of women born between 1946 and the 1960s, when the birth rate sharply increased in the United States - that is, a full-fledged baby boom occurred. Girls of this generation preferred natural nail designs with a minimum of details, in response to which the masters came up with a manicure that looked as if there was no varnish on the nails at all. This image became one of the true symbols of that period - and does not lose relevance today.

As a rule, in the case of such nail art, preference is given to the nude color scheme characteristic of a French jacket. You can implement such a delicate design even on very short nails. But in order for the transition to be as smooth as possible (namely, the smooth transition between shades is one of the characteristic features of such a manicure), it is better to wait until they grow at least a little.

Thanks to the nude color scheme, the manicure will look appropriate both on a date and at a business meeting, and will also harmoniously complement an evening look.

Required materials and tools

To do this manicure, you will need:

nail polish remover,

nude polish (for example, Demure Vix from Essie),

white or milky varnish (for example, “Perfect Fit” from Essie),

top (for example, Top Coat from Essie),

hand cream (for example, from Kiehl's).

Are you prepared? Further in the article we will tell you step by step how to create a baby boomer design on your nails.

But first, we recommend watching a tutorial video on creating a gradient. After all, baby boomer style manicure is also based on the technique of smooth transition between shades.

How to do a manicure in baby boomer style: step-by-step photo instructions

  1. 1

Apply nail polish in a nude shade that is close to the natural color of your nails. Wait until completely dry.

To create a gradient you will need a triangular makeup sponge. It has all the necessary characteristics, and you can find it in any cosmetics store, which greatly simplifies preparation.

To avoid staining the cuticle, you can use a special liquid tape. However, if you don’t have it, don’t give up experimenting. You can apply the polish in a strip according to the width of your nail. You should start with your little finger and, accordingly, the narrowest strip of varnish. First, apply white polish to the sponge at a distance of 5 mm from the edge, then add the base color of the polish that you used in the first step, right next to it.

Now, when you apply polish to your nail, the white polish will be closer to the free edge. Please note that if the varnish is applied with a rounded brush, the gradient will also be curved. To make the transition between colors smooth, apply the sponge to the nail in jerky movements, moving it up and down.

When creating a gradient on subsequent nails, apply the polish in wider stripes. Lastly, shape the thumbs. Feel free to apply the varnish over the previous stripes on the sponge - this will not affect the work in any way. However, after the design is completely completed and the varnish on the sponge has dried, this part will have to be cut off, as it will no longer be elastic enough.

To make the sponge paint the sides of the nail, pull the side ridges with your neighboring fingers.

If the sides are still not painted, apply a small amount of white polish to the corner of the sponge. This will allow you to precisely add varnish where it is needed.

To prevent your nail bed from looking short, extend your smile lines slightly.

Using the same corner with a new portion of white polish, go over the tips of the nails so that the white color in these areas is as dense and bright as possible.

If somewhere you think the white part of the gradient is higher than you would like, apply a base color polish over the white polish to adjust the pattern.

To smooth out the texture and give the design a finished look, apply a topcoat. In this case, the ability of the top coat to slightly dissolve the previous layers of varnish will work to your advantage, since the transition between colors will be as smooth as possible. Even if a small amount of nail polish gets on the skin, it can be easily corrected with a brush with a drop of nail polish remover. Eyebrow makeup brushes are great for this purpose, as well as for applying lipstick. They are denser than nail art brushes.

The baby boomer manicure can be complemented with other design elements if desired. For example, it will serve as an excellent background for a pattern in the shape of twigs.

The best ideas for gentle manicure for short and long nails

As with French or ombre, baby boomer nail designs offer many variations. You can choose a shade that almost matches the natural color of the nail, or give preference to brighter shades from the pink range; complement the manicure with drawings and rhinestones or leave it in its original form. And, according to the editors, look for the best ideas for a gentle baby boomer manicure in the photo below.

With rhinestones

In the case of such a delicate manicure as a baby boomer, you don’t want to overload it with details. Especially when it comes to designs for short nails. A small stone or a couple of rhinestones on the nail of the ring finger will be enough.

Manicure Baby Boomer (French gradient)

If you are a little tired of a gradient manicure in color, then here’s an interesting idea for you - an ombre gradient can even be made from a French manicure, making a smooth transition from a white lunula to a camouflage color on the nail bed. This nail design is called French gradient Baby Boomer . It looks very gentle and aesthetically pleasing, suitable for those who prefer classic and business style or want something new in nail design. Next we will look at all the details and nuances of performing such a gradient.

When I first saw this nail design, I wondered why it got such a name. It turns out that it came from master Terry Malone as a manicure for a certain group of clients born between 1946 and 1960 - they are called the baby boomer generation.

In its original form, this manicure also assumes a certain nail shape - a classic oval on short nails, but this French gradient is so popular that it is already common to see it on square nails.

In general, the Baby Boomer manicure technique is not much different from the usual horizontal gradient manicure - you can use all the known methods for designing nails with regular polish or gel polish, and even when modeling the nail plate with gel or acrylic.

This manicure is also well suited for subsequent application of a design, but there is a small nuance here: you should pay special attention to the choice of colors for the design so that the manicure remains as airy and soft. Therefore, white designs at the base of the nail, silver rhinestones, snowflakes, three-dimensional sculpting of white flowers, etc. are ideal for winter nail design.

For my design, I used two colors of gel polishes - FOX from the French collection number 729 and Entity White Light. I have already shown the second one on my blog, so I would like to specifically focus on FOX gel polishes, which I will also use in subsequent designs. Color number 729 is a pinkish-beige translucent gel polish, which is designed specifically for French manicure and, accordingly, is suitable for a French gradient.

The bottle has a volume of 6 ml and a bright shiny gold design. The brush is flat, trapezoidal and wide: when applying gel polish to the entire nail, it is convenient to use, but for the gradient I had to adapt a little. It has a sticky layer, polymerizes in an ultraviolet lamp for 2 minutes, in an LED lamp for 30-60 seconds.

Baby Boomer nail design technique

You can briefly watch the creation of nail designs in the Baby Boomer style in my video tutorial:

  1. Nails must be prepared for the application of gel polish: the cuticle is removed and the shape of the nails is straightened, the gloss is removed with a buff and a degreaser is applied.
  2. The first stage is standard - applying a base for gel polish and polymerizing it in a lamp.
  3. Next, apply camouflage to two-thirds of the nail, starting from the cuticle. Apply translucent white gel polish to the joint on the lower third. Next, using a thin nail design brush, blend the colors where they touch. First near the side rollers, then in the center. Periodically clean the brush from gel polish so as not to spoil the resulting shading. Already in one layer we get a smooth gradient transition! If white streaks somewhere, then correct the gradient in this place with the tip of the brush, holding it perpendicular to the nail. Now you can dry it in a lamp.
  4. We repeat the previous stage until we get a more saturated white jacket. I needed 3 layers for this.
  5. We cover our design with a top coat and dry it. I used a non-stick top coat also from FOX. It is thick and well suited for leveling the nail plate, which definitely needs to be done here. The only negative of the top is that the gloss is not very bright, one might say, a little dusty.

That's all - the Baby Boomer gradient is ready. Next, you can decorate your manicure with a design. I decided to do it using Vogue Nails 3D gel clay and added small Swarowski rhinestones - such a sparkly highlight!

I'll tell you about another way to make a Baby Boomer gradient (this is the method demonstrated on the third layer in the video). Instead of translucent white gel polish, you can use white, diluted in the top in a ratio of 2 to 1 (top to gel polish), so that the consistency is translucent - this is what allows you to get rid of streaks when creating a gradient with a brush, especially if the base color before dilution is very dense. You can apply it either with a clean gel polish brush or with a regular design brush, which will be used for shading.

If you have any questions about the design, ask them in the comments, but here I have everything, see you soon!

MANICURE "BABYBOOMER": NAIL ART FOR REAL LADIES

February 5, 2022 at 11:10 pm

Baby boomer is one of the varieties of French manicure, combining classic French design with the horizontal gradient technique. This image is considered one of the most sophisticated and elegant variations of nude design, looking equally graceful and noble on both short and long nails. What is it about this modest-looking nail art that captivates fashionistas around the world, and how can you beautifully decorate your nails with it? We will tell you about this today in our detailed review.

What is a Baby Boomer? How is it different from the classic gradient and French manicure?

The name Baby boomer became the official name of this type of ombre manicure with the light hand of nail artist Terry Malone. It takes us back to 1946-1960. Ladies born during this period preferred a manicure that was discreet and unobtrusive, neat and elegant, emphasizing the beauty and well-groomed hands of a woman and not overloaded with complex decoration. Its main emphasis is a very smooth and soft transition from the bright white free edge to the nail hole. And the main advantage is maximum naturalness and the illusion of naturalness. That is why, when creating a baby French coat, coatings of camouflage shades are used, requiring the master to have a trained eye and experience in the intricacies of selecting colors and halftones.

Baby boomer

- this is a kind of second “I” of a girl, regardless of her preferences in length and shape, the naturalness or extension of her nails. Stylish, airy, delicate and unpretentious, this design remains at the peak of manicure fashion, allowing beauties to pay more attention to makeup and outfit, as well as pleasing the eye under a strict work dress code. Among its advantages is the fact that the “boomer” does not limit the lady in the ways of his embodiment. It looks equally stylish and expressive in both varnish and gel polish versions. Lovers of super-durable manicures sport an acrylic boomer, and fans of interesting accents create this look using vinyl stencils and air puffing (or an airbrush).

Initially, baby nails assumed a simple classic nail shape - short length and a smooth oval, without a clear smile line. However, with time and the evolution of materials for modeling artificial nails, boomer nails have become common on “almond”, “square” and even coffin-nails shapes. The smoothness of the transition and the ability to select the shade of the coating as close as possible to the natural color of the nails allows you to resort to this design in cases where a girl wants to visually correct the shortcomings of her native nails (change the shape, length, convexity). How can you quickly, correctly and aesthetically bring this image to life on your fingers? Let's learn all the subtleties!

How to create a baby boomer with gel polish, varnish or acrylic?

Since this design is based on the classic horizontal gradient technique, creating such a design using any coating is very simple. In many ways, the beauty and grace of such nude manicures depends on the well-groomed hands and nails in general. Therefore, giving preference to boomer nails, take care of your skin and nails the day before creating a manicure. For example, by getting a spa manicure. When starting the actual design, complete the basic preparation. Namely: treat the cuticle with remover or remove it with scissors, adjust the length and shape of the nails with a nail file. If there are aesthetic defects in the nails, select a healing or leveling base (for varnish or gel polish design). Before applying the base, do not forget to lightly remove the gloss from the nail with a buff and wipe it with a degreaser.

Baby boomer on nail polish and gel polish

We talked in more detail and with all the important details about the secrets of gradient design in our educational articles:

Therefore, within the framework of this article, we will only reiterate the importance of choosing several shades for a smooth stretch, selecting several brushes to create a transition (thin brush and flat brush for a gradient), as well as having in your beauty arsenal such necessary auxiliary tools as: a sponge for a gradient, a palette or silicone mat for mixing shades, a liquid or clinser for gel polish, a corrector for eliminating random blemishes, as well as liquid manicure tape, which greatly facilitates the creation of this design.

Let's also consider creating a delicate milky French boomer using no less durable and expressive materials - acrylic powder and a new item in our range - acrylic gel (polygel)

Acrylic Babyboomer can be done in two ways - by applying colored powder to the gel polish and creating an acrylic mixture with monomer and then forming a stretch mark on the nail. The second method requires extensive experience working with acrylic nails and selecting a slow-hardening monomer. Only in this case will you have time to simultaneously apply two acrylic balls to the nail and smoothly stretch them, forming a beautiful milky pink (beige) stretch mark. In the combined version, you will definitely need a device for drying the design. This method is simpler and more accessible for beginners to master.

Let's do it step by step:

  • We apply a layer of gel polish base (classic, rubber or camouflage - depending on the needs of your nails) to the previously prepared nails, dry it in a lamp;
  • We cover the nails in 1-2 layers with white gel polish of a creamy texture, dry it and cover it with top coat. We try to keep the top layer thin. In this case, you will get a neat and delicate design, and too many acrylic grains will not stick to the top;
  • Take beige-pink acrylic powder and a fan brush. Apply powder to the undried top with light tapping movements in the direction from the cuticle to the free edge;
  • A little before reaching the area of color mixing (approximately the middle of the nail), we raise the brush higher to reduce the area of acrylic scattering. This way the powder will lie softer, at the base of the nail its layer will be denser, and at the middle it will be translucent, blending beautifully with the French stretch;
  • We repeat the same steps with the white acrylic color, scattering it from the free edge to the middle of the nail. Once we get a smooth mixture of shades, we send the nails to dry in the lamp. After drying, brush off excess acrylic from the skin with a brush;
  • Using a soft buff, carefully polish the finished design so that the nails become uniform and smooth. We remove the dust again and cover the design with topcoat. The finished Boomer can be supplemented with decorative elements that suit its style.

It is no less simple and convenient to create this type of air gradient using acrylic gel (polygel). The undoubted advantage of this material is that there is no need to use a monomer, mix the material and maintain proportions. Performing a manicure requires the use of a lamp to polymerize materials. Let's look at it step by step:

  • We apply a layer of primer to previously prepared nails to improve the adhesion of the base to a layer of colored decorative material and air dry it. Next, make a base for gel polish and dry it in a lamp;
  • We pick up a ball of camouflage shade of acrylic gel (polygel) with a brush or an orange stick (depending on the product packaging) and apply it to the nail. Wetting the brush in a clinser, stretch the acrylic gel from the cuticle to the free edge of the nail, gradually reducing the thickness of the material laid out;
  • We repeat the same steps, but with a white shade of acrylic gel. Using a hard fan brush, mix and stretch the border of the colors;
  • Next, you need to dry the coating in a lamp: 2 minutes in a UV device or 1 minute in an LED lamp. And sand the finished design with a buff or nail file to create a uniform surface;
  • We remove light dust with a lint-free cloth soaked in a client, cover the nails with topcoat and polymerize it in a lamp;
  • We complement the final design with suitable moderately shiny decorative materials.

A little advice: when working with polygels, for more convenient and comfortable work, use tips or reusable forms for laying out the material. In the case of tips, the polygel is applied to their reverse side, and then pressed tightly against the nail (the material is transferred in the form of a kind of acrylic “slider sticker”). When the manicure is ready and covered with top, it’s time to think about whether you will wear it solo, in its pristine beauty, or want to complement it with decorative elements.

Degrade baby boomer on nails: the most popular images and photo ideas, tips and secrets, educational photos and videos

When choosing decorative design for a baby boomer, give preference to materials that emphasize its softness, delicacy and airiness. If you just want to enhance the gloss and color saturation, use an ultra-glossy finish or a fixative with pearlescent or glitter particles that are small enough not to cover the beauty of the color design. As for the most popular baby looks, these include the following nail outfits:

  • Classic without decoration.
    The image is modest, but with its own charm and beauty. If you wish, you can even experiment with matte topcoats. This boomer look is very popular on nail shapes – “ballerina”.

  • Discreet painting.
    Design on an abstract theme with elegant and delicate ligature painting. Both modest painted ornaments and variations on the theme of oriental painting are welcome. The main thing is to observe the measure and not hide the delicate gradient behind the intricate curls of gel pastes or gel paints.

  • Bulk decor (glitter, sand, etc.).
    These decorative elements are best placed in the design as accents, on 1-2 fingers. Then you will maintain a balance between the boomer’s aristocratic restraint and your desire to decorate it in an interesting way.

  • Images with “diamonds” (rhinestones made of glass or acrylic).
    Such a sleek and effective design as the Baby Boomer is absolutely not contraindicated for a girl's best friend. In a baby look, as a rule, the lunula shines, beautifully complementing the white French stretch. However, there will be no kitsch and the desire to sparkle more actively. For example, with the help of brightly iridescent Swarovski rhinestones. You can give rhinestones one nail on each hand or make a rhinestone “painting”.

  • Manicure with sculpting.
    Due to their soulful tenderness and romance, such images are most often practiced in brides’ manicures. Modeling can be either very simple and not very voluminous, or in the form of 3D elements. An important point: the colors of the molding must exactly match the colors of the gradient itself, so that the manicure maintains a restrained color scheme with a spectacular decorative touch. In this image, both 3D paste and gel “plasticine” (4D) will look equally beautiful.

To make your design ideas in the baby boomer style as expressive and effective as possible, we advise you to watch our educational videos on gradient techniques:

As you can see, discreet, sophisticated, boomer nails sensitively “respond” to manicure trends, appearing both in a slightly prim, strict form (without design) and in a fantasy frame (with rubbing, sculpting, accented with liquid foil). What remains unchanged for this “milky French design” is its ability to transform a girl’s hands, refuting the prejudice that short nails are boring and nude is outdated. By choosing a baby design, you demonstrate not only good taste, but also maintain a balance between personal preferences and fashion requirements. odiva.ru

How to do a Baby Boomer manicure and design ideas

Today, Baby Boomer manicure is very popular.
This is an elegant French design that has become fashionable and remains very popular among girls. Baby boomer creates the appearance of natural nails if they are extended, and looks very natural and aesthetically pleasing on their nails. The term “Baby boomer” was coined by manicurist Terry Malone specifically for his target client audience, which includes people born in the baby boomer generation between 1946 and 1960. These clients are demanding and often want a neat, discreet manicure, and are willing to pay a lot of money for it. For this reason, every beauty studio should have a specialist who can work with this type of French.

Baby Boomer refers to a neat, extended or natural manicure that looks very natural and natural. This design is also called “milk”.

Unlike the classic “French” nail, in Baby Boomer there is no clear smile line at the tip of the nail; the transition from white to natural is smooth.

In order for your nails to have a more natural look, they should not be too long and have rounded corners. Today, this type of French has become so fashionable that it can be done on nails of any shape and length.

As a rule, the technique for creating a Baby Boomer manicure is not very different from the classic French manicure. To do this, you can use all methods, both for applying the Frenchman with varnish, and with gel or gel polish.

On such a manicure, drawings with ordinary paints or stickers in white and pastel colors will look very good. The main thing is not to spoil the lightness and airiness of this design with additional decor.

Manicure technique

You can find many educational video tutorials on the Internet that show and tell you in detail how to do a gradient manicure correctly.
We will describe the application technique below step by step:

  1. First of all, the nail plate should be prepared: remove the cuticle, degrease, cut out the desired shape.
  2. Next, apply the base for the gel polish and dry it in a lamp.
  3. Two thirds of the nail must be exposed with camouflage. Apply a light gel to the lower third of the nail so that it blends with the camouflage. After this, the joint must be shaded with a brush or roller. You should start from the edges and gradually move to the center of the nail. The tool must be cleaned periodically so as not to spoil the work. The gradient transition will be achieved already on the first layer. Then you can dry it in a lamp.
  4. At the end, you need to open your nails with top coat or finishing gel polish.

This completes the actual creation of Baby Boomer’s manicure.
Then you can start applying decor. To do this, it’s a good idea to use rhinestones, stickers, or apply designs with an airbrush. In order to perform this manicure, you may need the following tool:

  • nail files of different hardness;
  • nippers, scissors;
  • gel polishes in two shades;
  • degreaser;
  • fixative;
  • Ultraviolet lamp.

Every manicurist should be aware of all modern innovations in order to be able to make all the wishes of their clients come true.

The shape is also not important: it can be almond-shaped nails, square nails, or ballerina nails.

Experienced masters complement the classic baby manicure with various decorations and designs.

Boomer manicure can be completely different, it all depends on the artist’s imagination and personal preferences. Any variation will decorate your nails and emphasize good taste.

Combined design

The color of the gradient also matters. For example, a combination of pink shades looks great on tanned hands, and a cool beige color scheme is better suited for ladies with aristocratic pallor.

Babyboomer: new manicure trend

It is impossible to imagine a modern girl without a beautiful, neat manicure. The choice of designs offered by nail craftsmen is huge. Rhinestones and cobwebs are in fashion. I want to tell you about a new trend in the world of nail art - the “baby boomer” design.

A trend that came to us from America

It is very difficult to keep up with fashion in the field of manicure. For example, just last year girls often wore square-shaped nails, but now almost everyone chooses almond or oval. Nail artists do not always have time to purchase everything they need to complete a new design that is gaining popularity. Moreover, now, with the widespread spread of the Internet, new nail ideas come from other countries and from distant continents.

What is a "baby boomer"? This term is often associated with manicure options that were common in the 50-60s. 20th century. However, now this concept means something different. The baby boomer design is reminiscent of the French cut that was popular in the 2000s and the ombre look that modern fashionistas love so much. Now a new trend in the field of manicure has gone beyond America, because it is also highly appreciated by European fashionistas. Nail experts note that the new design always looks elegant and is perfect for both special occasions and everyday wear.

Peculiarities

Some girls mistake the “baby boomer” design for a French style, which is now considered a classic. Yes, these two types of manicure are visually similar, but the new trend has fundamental differences.

If the artist makes a “baby boomer” design, then the change from the natural pink-beige color to white will be very smooth. If you take a quick look at your nails, you will get the feeling that one shade is transitioning into another. The new design does not imply sharp boundaries, only smooth transitions. A baby boomer style manicure will suit any nail shape.

The emergence of a new trend is due to the fact that fashionistas have already become tired of old techniques. French has been at the top of popularity for many years, but now it is made noticeably less frequently. Ombre and gradients are usually done in bright colors, which is unacceptable for women of certain professions. Fashionistas wanted change - and they got it. A manicure in the “baby boomer” style will be appropriate in any situation, even as it grows, it looks neat.

New trend

Baby boomer manicures are gaining popularity, but not all artists can recreate them. Even those who know how to skillfully make a French coat cannot always repeat the fashionable technique. I think in this case, girls should sign up for a seminar to learn baby boomer style manicure. Some fashionistas consider this technique too difficult because they cannot repeat it at home.

I love baby boomer style manicures. He is very gentle, calm, interesting. I usually prefer bright designs, but this time I want to trust a new trend (I hope my master can handle it). I think this manicure will suit brides especially well. It goes well with popular colors of wedding dresses: pink, beige, white. The gentle technique suits any nail shape, but, in my opinion, it will look most impressive on an oval or almond shape.
