Yellow-green manicure: fashion ideas (PHOTO)
Coating nails with gel polish consists of three stages: applying a base, color coating, and a final layer of top. And the durability of the coating and its quality depend on what the base is. The bases are divided into different structures.
There are classic, rubber, camouflage. Rubber steels are popular and firmly established in the manicure industry.
The difference between a rubber base and a classic one
The first and main advantage is that coating with a rubber base is considered more durable. But there are other differences worth considering.
Consistency - the rubber base is thick, and the classic one is liquid. Liquid by the standards of gel polish. In general, the classic base is similar to a colored coating, only transparent.
And here you need to understand what is easier to work with. A thick base requires special skills. Without them, the base may become lumpy. With liquid it can be the opposite; it tends to flow onto the side rollers.
Removing the base or coating
It's easier to remove a classic base. It is always removed by soaking. As for rubber, this is only cutting, using a manicure machine. However, this has its plus. For example, the coating with a rubber base does not have to be completely removed. This means that the cost of a new coating will be less.
Material consumption
The rubber base has a higher consumption due to its thickness. But this results in an advantage that outweighs such a disadvantage. Since the durability of this manicure reaches up to one and a half months.
For those who like to frequently change the coating, a classic base is suitable. Its consumption is more economical and it is easier to remove.
Alignment. How to apply rubber base
A rubber base can be used to smooth out uneven surfaces and create perfect highlights. In the case of the classic base, we cover it only as a foundation. However, the irregularities may remain in place.
Strengthening
A rubber base can not only level the nail plate, but also strengthen weak and brittle nails. If you use acrylic powder in addition, then this coating will last better than any medicinal coating. By the way, when strengthening your nails with a rubber base, it is not necessary to cover them with a colored coating.
Building up
By choosing a thick rubber base, you can increase the corners or length of the nail. True, it is better to use this method for nail repair than for regular extensions. And also the rubber base should be thicker than usual.
TOP best databases
Rubber bases differ from each other in consistency and polymerization rate. But rather, the density affects the quality of the coating. So, a less dense one will be able to spread over the side rollers. And a thick one will lie more evenly and create perfect highlights.
Among the best rubber bases I would like to highlight:
- KODI
- UNO
- Vogue
- Nail passion
- TNL
- Haryama
- Uskusi
Rubber base Kodi
One of the first to be included in the line of rubber bases. Gained popularity for its durability. Production base Ukraine. The consistency of the base is a dense substance, similar in composition to biogel.
On sale you can find various volumes from 6 ml to 35 ml. For regular work, 12 or 14 ml is suitable. If you are a master and work on a constant flow, then 35 ml. Starting from 14 ml the base comes without a brush.
By the way, some note that it is better to buy without a brush. Since it is in bottles with a brush that defects are sold. The base may bubble. Because of this, the coating will turn out with slight unevenness.
The cost of the base is from 400 to 1200 rubles. Buy only from trusted stores. The base of this particular brand often turns out to be a fake. However, with the original base, the coating can be worn for up to one and a half months.

Rubber base UNO
Another favorite in the nail industry world. It has a very thick structure. Bottle volume from 15 ml. The manufacturer of the base is Hong Kong. The base brush is made of synthetic bristles and is flat, but rather short. Due to its density, the drying time increases.
Also, it should be noted that it is better to apply it in smaller proportions than bases from other brands. A thicker layer may cause burns during polymerization. The larger volume base, like the others, is sold without a brush.
Rubber base Vogue
Rubber base Vogue brand Germany. It refers to self-leveling bases. This means it is applied elastically and helps to achieve perfect highlights. Sold in 10 ml and 30 ml volumes. The largest volume is sold in a jar without a brush.
But it's not a problem. Buying a brush separately is not expensive. And the quality will be better than using volume with a brush. The brand goes well with other brands. Manicure with Vogue base lasts up to one and a half months.
Rubber base Nail Passion
The Nail Passion rubber base is a breakthrough in Russian professional cosmetics. Does not differ in quality from imported competitors. Sold in volumes up to 50 ml. The cost reaches up to 1400 rubles. By the way, their top is distinguished by its shine and shine, especially without a sticky layer.
Rubber base TNL
A budget representative of rubber bases, but not inferior in quality. Manufacturer: Korea. It has a thick texture. Varies in density. The thicker one is ideal for attaching rhinestones and other accessories. The cost of such a base is about 300 rubles.
Rubber base Haryama
Another budget representative of rubber bases is Haryama. The cost does not exceed 300 rubles. The texture is moderately dense. Volume ranges from 7 to 30 ml. True, large volumes rarely appear on sale. The base is in demand, so it is better to buy several at once.
Rubber base Uskusi
Analogue of Haryama rubber base. These are “relatives” bases. They have the same representative. The texture is similar. Therefore, if one is not on sale, the other is interchangeable. However, it is worth noting that the volume is from 15 ml. polymerizes only in a UV lamp.
As for durability, the bases here are equal: the durable coating lasts up to four weeks. Deviations may vary depending on the manufacturer. The same applies to polymerization time. For an ultraviolet lamp this is usually 2 minutes, and for an LED lamp from 30 to 60 seconds. However, there are also some nuances of working with a rubber base:
- Again, due to its thickness, the liquid tends to bubble. To avoid this, it is recommended to: close the lid tightly after use,
- do not leave the bottle open for a long time,
- take out the brush and put it back without sudden movements so that the bristles do not bend.
- First, you should get rid of excess material on the brush and its base so that a large and thick drop does not fall on the nail.
How to apply rubber base
I talked about the intricacies of applying and distributing a base with rubber above. And here I would like to talk about the preliminary manipulations to prepare the nail plate for gel polish coating.
They can be divided into stages:
- Using a file, we even out the shape and length of the nails.
- Soften, push back and remove the cuticle.
- We remove the natural shine from nails using a polisher,
- We use a degreaser or disinfectant.
- Apply the base for gel polish.
Well, then the nails are usually covered with gel polish, if desired, a drawing is made and covered with a top coat.
Next, I propose to consider all this in practice using the example of several rubber bases I have: UNO, In'garden and Premiere.
Kodi Rubber Top
Hello! Only lazy people haven’t heard about Cody’s top! Well, or someone who is not interested in gel polish coating. Let’s omit the description of the product - this is often enough in reviews and on the Internet.
In this review, I immediately want to warn BEGINNERS from buying this top - you either won’t be able to cope or it will take a long time and with difficulty to tame it! Therefore, I ask you to carefully consider the shortcomings of the top!
My top is original - so that there are no stupid and more interesting assumptions about what I’m doing wrong.
Many reviews are disingenuous by not pointing out the disadvantages of this product, since this is a prestigious brand and it is not customary to throw mud at such products! But I am for honest reviews! So let's continue!
Main disadvantages:
— BUBBLES are just some kind of misfortune! they are omnipresent! Indeed, you can get rid of them, but this is only for a while - leaving it open at night so that later there will be dust in it, too, you won’t get it every time! In addition, bubbles are also formed from the fact that stickiness is driven into the top from the brush - when you apply 2 layers, for example, and stickiness from dried colored gel polish also getting into the bottle can cause even more bubbles to form. in order for the top to remain free of impurities, you need to pour a little top onto the palette and apply it with a separate brush, but this will also not prevent the formation of bubbles
- GLOSS - I don’t know who is talking about what, but this top has a weak gloss hold, like many rubber tops, this is their main drawback, which can be compensated by re-applying the top 1 week after coating - then you will refresh the coating and everything will shine again. and the original shine will last for a week
- THE TOP IS OBVIOUSLY TURNING YELLOW - this is noticeable precisely on light shades, I did it to a friend, after a week it was unrecognizable as a colored gel polish, it became dirty and cloudy
— THE TOP DOESN'T LEAK, IT JUST RUNS AWAY! the top is very liquid and flows quickly immediately after application and there is no need to wait, it turns out everywhere - on the cuticle, at the border of the rollers, in addition, this property is very distracting and annoying. you cannot execute any design calmly and meaningfully because the top will simply run away. even in the lamp when drying it runs away somewhere despite the fact that I turn my fingers down
- THE TOP IS LEAKING FROM THE NECK - this is not a significant minus, but it really interferes with work, when you grab the bottle, your hand is sticky, opening it is simply unpleasant, and it also affects work
— TOP EXPENSIVE 470 rub. for a little over 7 milliliters, or 650 rubles. for 12 ml of such a branded disgrace - an unjustified price
And the only advantage is the durability of the coating... well, excuse me, with a good base from the same KODI, everything lasts with any top, and by the way, I am convinced that the key to durability is rather the base, since most often the manicure suffers from peeling and chipping in the base. And if the top coat is applied correctly and competently, then everything will last on a good base.
Now photos of manicures with the KODI top - I didn’t notice any mega-cool shine or gloss, I got a cooler gloss from the TNL top and lasts longer:
I must say the top holds the broths and rhinestones well, of course they fell off but very rarely, so as not to put rhinestones and small decor on the base and create additional bumpiness, this top is suitable. But there are tops that also hold rhinestones and other decorations well.
The varnish is shiny - it’s brown, it’s like there’s no topcoat and no shine on the white one. Manicure using the liquid stones technique on the middle finger.
A very primitive manicure, the shine is just as mediocre.
The shine comes only from gel polish with a metallic effect, I made this option for my mother with the Cody top
There is no shine. Only rhinestones and silver varnish give a highlight to the manicure.
In this photo, the manicure is also with Cody's top, the photo was taken under a lamp, there are bubbles on it, but you can hardly see it from this angle. There is glitter, but this is more the merit of the cat's eye gel polish - it's mega beautiful.
As you can see from the presented photos, if you look at the top with the usual eye of a camera and do not resort to tricks with a large table lamp, as nail technicians like to do for advertising purposes, you will notice that the shine is mediocre
Here, speaking of durability - the coating cracked and with it a detachment formed right along the top layer of the nail - in fact, everything broke completely with the coating - this is the merit of the Cody base, I had to cut off the nail, then I smoothed everything out and grew it.
This is a manicure for a friend - there is no mega-shine, bubbles were avoided only by covering with a separate brush and a very thin layer twice, and there are still tiny bubbles in some places, you just can’t see it in the photo.
For comparison, photos of the TNL top (regular non-rubber with a sticky layer):
Without flash:
With flash:
The shine is quite strong, even in the dark and under a regular flash without using a lamp (the leveling was not done on all the nails, so the glare is crooked in some places, since my nails grow upward like a springboard, I did it for the sake of experiment and comparison - with and without leveling).
I don’t recommend Top KODI to anyone, but especially to beginners, it’s just a hassle with it... and it’s pointless to keep it just for the sake of rhinestones.
Rubber base UNO
Bottle volume – 15 ml.
Country of origin : Hong Kong.
The base has a very thick consistency and dense texture, is viscous and holds a drop well. However, due to its thickness, a lot of material remains on the brush stem, so you need to wipe it thoroughly on all sides in order to apply a thin layer of gel polish.
The brush is flat, made of translucent synthetic bristles and, in my opinion, a little short. It’s not entirely clear to me why they made it so short: it’s unusual in application, and I didn’t notice that it made it any more convenient.
The brush is a little harsh, so when applying gel polish in a thin layer, it leaves streaks. However, due to the self-leveling property, they disappear after some time. Therefore, before placing it in the lamp, I recommend holding the nails in the air for 30 seconds.
Polymerization time in an ultraviolet lamp is 2 minutes, in an LED lamp – 30 seconds. It has residual stickiness, which should not be removed before applying the color coating: it improves the adhesion of materials.
According to the manufacturer, the base does not require a primer and adheres well without it, even on thin and soft nails. Wearing time is from 2 to 4 weeks. Another advantage of the base is that it is based on a soluble formula, thanks to which the gel polish can be easily removed with the product in 5-7 minutes, even without filing!
Advantages of rubber coating
Based on personal experience, professional manicurists choose a rubber base coat for several reasons:
- density and thickness allows you to effectively cope with leveling the surface of the nail plate;
- ease of application;
- not susceptible to chipping when worn;
- effectively protects the nail plane from coloring pigment;
- strengthens brittle nails;
- strength and elasticity;
- Drying time is significantly longer.
Thanks to its thick consistency, the rubber base perfectly levels the surface of the nail. Various defects, such as tubercles, pits and grooves, can spoil the appearance of the nails.
Alignment will give the nail an overall ideal look, creating an aesthetic and high-quality manicure. And the vitamins added to the base also create a healing effect.
Rubber base In'Garden Ideal Nails
You won’t find the words “rubber” on the bottle; it simply says “leveling.”
I have a large 30 ml jar. I do not recommend using the material directly from such a jar; it is better to pour it into an empty one: if you frequently open and wipe the brush on its edges, the base will accumulate there, the lid will begin to open poorly and bubbles will appear in the base. In addition, the lid itself springs back and tends to slam shut, which is inconvenient to use. This volume is, of course, an economical option, but it is worth considering these subtleties.
As for the base itself, it is a little thinner than UNO, but it also holds a drop well and is applied thinly. But, again, I couldn’t evaluate her original brush; I used an ordinary flat one.
This is how the base shines after drying in a lamp:
Rubber base: characteristics and application features
The rubber base is thick or has a medium texture due to the liquid rubber contained in the composition. It is also made self-leveling, transparent or colored. This type of product almost does not spread when applied, gives nails strength, and protects against chipping of varnish particles and peeling.
Another advantage of many products in the range is comfortable drying in a lamp, without pain. The main thing is not to overdo it with the amount, apply the product evenly to all nails, which is easy to check by looking at the glare. And with the help of a rubber base you can perform extensions.
Additional conditions for high-quality application of the base:
- the end of the nail should be thin, especially if the previous coating was removed;
- the correct architecture of the plate, that is, its highest point is in the central part, neither higher nor lower;
- the right choice of the product itself - for beginner nail artists, thick is better, experienced ones need to focus on their own speed of work;
- the amount of material should be optimal so that it is enough for the entire plate, but it does not lie in a lump;
- covering the entire nail area, but not under the cuticle.
How is it different from the usual
Rubber base and regular base are incomparable; what the difference is is easy to understand by assessing each according to several criteria:
- The first is used for different types of nails, including wavy, “rag”, prone to brittleness. With its help you can level their surface. The second one will be useless for problematic nail plates. It is more suitable for healthy, strong, smooth surfaces, as it does not have leveling properties.
- The rubber base not only holds weak, bendable nails well, but also allows you to wear long-lasting manicures for a long time. The regular one does not provide such support. The length may break with it.
- The texture of the rubber base allows it to be applied quickly in 2-3 strokes. The usual one needs careful even distribution with a brush; often you need to apply two layers.
- Rubber takes longer to dry in the lamp, but many products in this category eliminate discomfort during the procedure. Most regular bases cause a burning sensation when drying.
- Some types of rubber base are suitable for extensions. A regular substrate will not perform this function.
Will nails be strengthened?
Strengthening nails with a rubber base occurs due to strong adhesion to their surface. The product becomes like another layer of plates. The flexibility of the base allows them to avoid breakage under impact loads and during growth. This is a durable but gentle frame for marigolds.
How to use
Using a rubber base is also more convenient than a regular liquid one:
- First, take a small drop of the product, and shake off the excess back into the bottle.
- Coat the plate with a thin layer over the entire surface, that is, make 3 strokes.
- Then you need to take another drop of material and place it in the middle of the nail.
- All that remains is to distribute it evenly over the entire area with quick wave-like movements and send your hand into the lamp.
The rubber base should be applied to buff-treated and grease-free nails.
Watch this video on how to use a rubber base for gel polish:
Is it possible to extend nails
You can use a rubber base to extend your nails if you want to make them a little longer. The product must be hard when dry, that is, from the structure or builder series. The process consists of the following steps:
- A form for extension is placed on the prepared nail.
- A primer or dehydrator is applied to half the plate and allowed to dry.
- Use a thick layer of base on the free edge of the nail, modeling its continuation (put a drop in the middle and smear it on the sides).
- The hand is placed in a lamp to polymerize the composition.
- After it dries, remove the form.
- The base is applied in a thin layer to the entire surface of the nail.
- Then take another drop of the product and make an additional, denser layer, without lifting it, moving the brush from the center to the right and left.
- The product is polymerized again in a lamp.
- After removing the sticky layer, the extended nails are filed to give the desired shape and remove defects.

Rubber base Premiere
Bottle volume – 8 ml.
It is distinguished by its budget price, because of this, some may feel that the quality suffers. Yes, the label on the bottle tends to peel off, but I don’t think that because of this it’s not worthy of attention.
The base here is the thinnest of all in this review, but it is still a little thicker than usual. The brush is flat, synthetic and long. I liked it the most when applying it.
ON TOPIC: Autumn manicure. Fashion trends (PHOTO)
Since I have had this base for a long time, I noticed that it curls up a little and thickens on the brush. Apparently my bottle was not tightly closed. Therefore, take care of your materials and handle them carefully!
As you can see, all the bases give a fairly even highlight. However, it is worth considering that my nails do not have large uneven spots, so I do not need much effort to straighten them.
That's all, if you have used another rubber base company, write your reviews and observations in the comments. I'd be glad to hear your opinion. Bye bye!
Which rubber bases are not worth buying?
Any unknown brands should be treated with suspicion. And also to the cheap ones. One of these is Bluesky. It would seem not budget-friendly, but the list of anti-recommended ones includes the Vogue camouflage base. The coating after it often has chips and detachments. And the cosmolac rubber base will close this list.
When choosing a rubber base, follow your own criteria. It is best to start with a small purchase. To have the opportunity to test. It is also worth noting that you need to take into account the type of lamp. Since some of them polymerize only in a certain form.
Technology
First of all, apply a degreaser to the previously prepared nail surface and wait 30 seconds. Then the coating is carried out with a small amount of rubber base. It should be applied carefully, with light movements, spreading over the entire surface of the nail.
Next, the base coated nails are sent to dry under a special lamp. Thin, brittle nails should be reapplied with base coat. Then the gel polish required in a particular case is applied.
Like any traditional coating, rubber is applied after careful processing and necessary degreasing of the nail plate. Now, thanks to this coating, the manicure will retain its impeccable appearance for a long time without chipping or breaking, even if you have to spend a lot of time in the country or often come into contact with water.
