Nail bonder. What is it, types, difference with primer, how to use. Best bonders: Lisa, Cody, Ingarden, Ibd, Glenio

How to use bonder, primer, dehydrator base?

Nowadays, many girls, due to the fact that the cost of gel polish coating is quite high, do the work at home. There are a lot of tools that help you do this, and quite quickly.

But not every girl who makes gel polish knows how to apply it correctly and why a huge variety of all these products is needed before using the gel polish itself. In this article we will try to figure out what a primer, bonder, dehydrator are needed for and their differences.

What is a nail bonder and what is it for?

A nail bonder is a tool that allows you to attach an artificial plate to a nail plate during the extension process, improve the quality of fastening and prolong the result of the procedure. The product is applied to the nail carefully, without going beyond and without getting on the cuticle and skin. Otherwise, the process will have to start over.

Bonder features include:

  • uniform distribution of the product over the surface of the nail plate due to the sticky gel structure;
  • maximum contact of artificial material with the surface of the nail;
  • smooth connection between the nail and the subsequent extension material.

The product is thick, the consistency is similar to glue, hence the good adhesion effect. Use bonder as double-sided tape for strong bonding. When adding extensions, a primer is additionally used - a protective substance. Both products complement each other and cannot be used alone or interchangeably.

What is a nail primer?

What is the drug for, and what qualities differ the primer from the bonder? The main quality of the product is the destruction of fungi and bacteria. In addition to this, there are many more advantages:

  • The water balance in tissues is normalized;
  • A protective layer is created from the negative effects of drugs that will be applied further;
  • Improves adhesion between the plate and subsequent layers;
  • It dries and removes excess moisture;
  • The fatty layer is removed.

There is no need to dry the product using a UV lamp - the applied layer dries quickly without additional exposure.

You should not neglect the use of primer - without a protective layer it is easy to damage the nail plate. High quality manicure will also remain only a dream - the coating will peel off very quickly.

Types of primers

Like the bonder, the primer has several varieties. One type is based on aggressive methacrylic acid. Promotes raising of scales, which provide reliable adhesion to subsequent layers.

An acid-free primer is usually used if post-drying is not required. It has increased adhesiveness and provides a reliable connection to the artificial plate. It is recommended if acrylic gel is applied to the nail.

Advantages

The result of a manicure directly depends on the quality of the product - the bonder should not be cheap.

The specialized composition has important advantages:

  • prevents further peeling;
  • creates a protective layer, thanks to the product the nails are protected from the negative effects of manicure layers;
  • ensures uniform fit of both surfaces;
  • firmly connects the nail plate to the material;
  • Covers the surface evenly thanks to the gel structure.

Nail bonder is a tool that you cannot do without when doing extensions. It has no analogues.

If you do not use a bonder in the process, the result is poor-quality application, peeling and damage to the nail. The durability of the manicure will be minimal.

What is the difference between the coatings?

How are primer and bonder similar, what is the difference between the drugs? Many girls, due to inexperience, believe that they have the same qualities. You should not make mistakes that will certainly affect the results of your work - despite similar qualities, the products have many differences.

What is the difference between the products, and what characteristics does each of them have? The main difference is in the composition. It is completely different, the active particles have different qualities. The primer serves to disinfect the nail plate, prevents the penetration of harmful microbes into the tissue, and protects against damage. Bonder increases the strength of the nail, prolongs the life of the manicure, and prevents delamination of the plate. Another difference from the primer is that it will require drying under UV rays.

The video describes the main differences between a bonder, primer and dehydrator:

Flaws

Bonder has minor disadvantages, but such a tool is still necessary.

The disadvantages include:

  • it is not a universal remedy, the bonder cannot be used without a primer, this will lead to destruction of the nail plate;
  • when used, a special ultraviolet lamp is required; the bonder does not dry in the usual way;

  • additional expenses for the purchase - many manicurists prefer not to use the product, but as a result, the savings lead to a poorly performed manicure.

Primer and bonder: differences, similarities

Many beginners, in order to save money, replace the bonder with another product - a primer. But this is not even an analogue, but a means for preparing the nail for subsequent layers of manicure. The primer is responsible for the health of the nail plate, creates a protective film, thanks to which harmful substances do not penetrate inside. Without a bonder, nails break and peel, and the gel polish applied later quickly wears out.

The composition of a bonder differs from a primer; they have different functions and techniques of use. The very first layer is a primer; it creates a water-alkaline balance and protects the nail from chemical exposure. The substance is used as a primer to level the nail plate.

Its functions are not only protection, but also cleansing, disinfection, and removal of excess moisture. Without a primer, your manicure will turn out uneven. In addition, it dries naturally without additional equipment.

The bonder prevents further delamination due to its good adhesion characteristics. The product fixes the material to the nail after the first layer has dried. If you use a bonder without a primer, the nail plate is damaged. After application, the product must be dried under a special lamp.

The distinctive features of these products are as follows:

  • the primer acts as a primer, the bonder acts as glue;
  • the primer has a liquid consistency, the bonder has a sticky gel-like consistency;
  • drying process and time: for a primer - naturally, for a bonder - under a lamp.

You cannot use the funds separately or completely ignore them. The primer is the basis for further application, the bonder is the substance for fastening the decorative coating. It is prohibited to replace both products with regular glue, as the result will be short-lived, and after removing the manicure, the nail surface will be severely worn out.

Comparative characteristics

Now it’s worth understanding more clearly what the main differences between these two drugs are.

Bonder is translated as gluing, cohesive . When extending nails, this drug is used to ensure better adhesion. The bonder is responsible for preventing gel-based nails from peeling off after the extension has been completed.

Bonder is characterized by a sticky structure , so after applying it, the surface should be dried under a lamp for about three minutes, and only then the main artificial coating should be applied. Because of its structure and purpose, bonder is often called double-sided tape.

A primer, in fact, is a kind of nail primer , which serves to clean and level the surface. The primer also degreases the nail plate and equalizes the pH balance. Thanks to this preparation, excess moisture is removed from the surface. Due to the characteristics of its composition and properties, the primer helps improve the adhesion of the nail surface to the artificial layer. It is very easy to distinguish the primer. Unlike bonder, it does not require additional drying after application and dries instantly.

A professional nail technician uses both products sequentially when performing a manicure. First, a primer is applied, which prepares the nail plate for the application of an artificial decorative coating. After this, a bonder is applied, which guarantees a strong and high-quality adhesion.

Types of bonder

In extensions or when using gel polish, one type of bonder is used - acidic and acid-free.

CharacteristicsAcidAcid-free
Which nails is it suitable for?Damaged, greasy.With normal fat content.
CompoundMethacrylic acid, butyl acetate, ethanol.Ethyl acetate.
PeculiaritiesGives the surface a smooth appearance, disinfects, prevents the development of bacteria, degreases, and dehydrates.More gentle, forms good adhesion, degreases, removes harmful bacteria, and dries.
What is it used for?For acrylic extensions.For extensions on tips, shellac, gel polish.

A nail bonder will help the nail become stronger and not break.
Many experts include dehydrate as a type of bonder - the product cleanses the nail, but does not protect against the effects of fungal infection. It does not affect the color of the subsequent coating, does not deplete the nail plate, and prevents brittleness and peeling. Well suited for people with allergic diseases.

Primer

Importance of application, specifics

Primer is one of the mandatory “tools” in the working kit of any self-respecting nail technician. Neglecting this important cosmetic product can lead to rapid destruction of extended nails (material peeling, cracks and, even worse, the formation of fungal microflora between the natural nail and the synthetic one). The primer is essentially a preparatory base before applying the bonder.

The main function of the primer is to degrease the surface of the nail plate and improve adhesion to the base coat. In addition, the product is able to efficiently disinfect the working surface for extensions, as well as prevent the development of a pathogenic fungal environment under the extensions. Some types of primers additionally provide a slight drying effect on the nails and do not affect the final color of the nail coating.

When is the primer used? The product is indispensable when working with acrylic materials and modeling with shellac.

Why can’t the primer be replaced with regular alcohol or antiseptic? In this case, the effect on the nail will not be deep enough. Yes, alcohol will remove dust, grease particles and some microorganisms from the surface of the plate, but it will not be able to sufficiently degrease and dry it. And this is already fraught with the development of fungus and insufficient strength of the material.

Types of primers and subtleties of working with them

All primers can be divided into 2 large groups: acid-free and acidic.

Acid-free primer

– a hypoallergenic, gentle product that perfectly degreases the nail surface. At the same time, it maintains its natural pH level. The main active ingredient of the composition is ethyl acetate. What's good about this option? Firstly, it does not change the color of the base coat. Secondly, it maintains the natural pH level of the nail plate. Thirdly, it is suitable for weakened nails.

Who is it suitable for? For those with thin nails that are prone to splitting, as well as those with allergies. When is it used? When modeling with gel, when correcting shellac.

Important

. Although the acid-free primer does not contain toxic methacrylic acid, it is still classified as a toxic compound, so when working with it it is important to protect yourself with a mask with a reliable filter or a respirator and under no circumstances allow the substance to come into contact with the skin.

The composition does not need to be dried using an ultraviolet lamp: just leave the nails with the applied primer in the air for a few minutes and you can start working with the bonder. It is worth considering that after application the composition does not change color, so the fact of drying can only be determined by the absence of wet areas on the plate.

Acid primer

– an aggressive agent containing methacrylic acid, which is considered a toxin. But, since its concentration in this case is negligible, the substance is absolutely harmless to the nail plate. What's good about the product? It provides strong adhesion of the working material to the nail due to the ability to open its scales. It is considered the best option for acrylic extensions.

The main function of an acidic base product is similar to that performed by an acid-free one: cleaning nails from grease, dirt, thorough dehydrogenation, protection from potential negative aspects (formation of fungus under the coating, damage to the material, etc.).

Who is it suitable for? Those with oily nails, as well as those whose hands often sweat. When is it used? When modeling with gel, acrylic, when correcting shellac.

Important. Since acid primer is a toxic cosmetic product, it is important to protect your respiratory tract when working with it: you should wear a mask with a filter or a respirator. Avoid contact with skin. The acid composition is applied in a very thin layer: an excessive amount of the substance can soften the nails. It is worth considering that after drying the product changes color, becoming white. This is a sure sign that you can continue the process of nail modeling.

How to use for gel polish?

The most common coating for manicure is gel polish. It differs from conventional varnish in the application time, drying method, composition and shelf life of the coating. Gel polish can also be applied, but it must be dried under an ultraviolet lamp. A well-done manicure can last and maintain lasting color for 3 weeks.

Nail bonder is a universal product that is equally suitable for gel polish, tips or other extensions.

Creating a manicure using gel polish proceeds sequentially:

  • nail preparation - removing hangnails, filing edges, cuticles;
  • buffer treatment to level the surface;
  • removal of dust residues;

  • applying primer and bonder;
  • applying a base coat;
  • drying under a lamp;
  • applying the first layer and further drying;
  • if necessary, cover the nail with another layer of gel polish, dry under a lamp;
  • coating with a special agent to prevent chipping and impart a glossy shine.

Terms of use

Even beginners can use a bonder - it is easy to apply, dries quickly and eliminates unpleasant surprises during use. First, you need to treat the client’s hands with an antiseptic spray. Then do a hygienic manicure - remove the old coating using cutters or special solutions and clean it. It is important to get rid of rough skin and effectively eliminate pterygium. It is necessary to process the plate with a sanding file.

To prevent sawdust particles from interfering with your work and getting into your lungs, turn on the manicure hood or vacuum cleaner. Primer can be applied to buffed nails, and only after it dries, bonder can be applied. Do not allow the product to flow under the cuticle, otherwise you will have to redo everything. The final stage is drying in a lamp. After this, you can apply other formulations, including extension gel. If the bonder is used as glue for tips, it should not be dried under ultraviolet light - then already extended nails will be polymerized. It is recommended to apply the product using driving movements with a brush, starting from the middle of the nail.

A base for applying gel polish is a must. It prepares the nail for further layers of manicure, leveling it and protecting it from the negative effects of coloring pigments. After application, the base hardens in an ultraviolet lamp. Only then can you apply gel polish or other coating.

How is it different from a primer?

Despite the prevalence of both compositions, bonder is still often confused with primer, although they have two different directions of action.

The main function of the primer is to create a protective film on the nails, preventing aggressive effects on their structure and the penetration of aggressive substances. Bonder increases adhesion to the decorative coating, preventing the occurrence of peelings, chips, cracks and premature convergence of the result.

Without a bonder, the gel polish will apply unevenly, especially with natural defects and uneven surfaces.

Also one of the main differences is the drying method. If the primer hardens spontaneously in 15-20 seconds, then the bond must be dried in an ultraviolet lamp for a minute. And this sometimes causes a slight burning sensation associated with a sudden surge of heat to the sensitive area.

If you want the effect to last longer, you must use both formulations.

Bonder review Lisa

Bonder Venalisa has 60 shades in its assortment, thanks to which it can be used in everyday life or for a special occasion. The coating is used as a basis for a plain manicure or a decorated version, followed by the application of paintings, drawings, and rhinestones.

Venalisa smoothes nails well, creating a solid base for the next layer. The volume of the bottle is 7.5 ml; the medium-sized brush with high elasticity distributes the product evenly.

It is best to apply bonder in 2 layers - multi-layering removes streaks and adds brightness to the color. Each layer is dried under a UV lamp.

The product does not cause allergies, protects nails from exposure to ultraviolet radiation and toxic substances contained in manicure products. The procedure takes about an hour, the effect lasts up to 3 weeks. Venalisa, according to numerous reviews, is recognized as the most affordable and good product for coating gel polish.

Cody

The American brand is popular due to its variety of advantages. The high quality of the coating is ensured by a unique composition that is odorless and does not harm the nail plate. Use the product at home and in salons.

The substance does not spread during the application process, but is evenly distributed over the entire surface of the plate.

The durability of the product reaches 3-4 weeks. A rich color palette allows you to experiment and create bright patterns. After applying the coating, you can decorate the surface with rhinestones, apply drawings or apply regular gel polish. The product stays on the nails for a long time without cracking or damaging the nails after removal.

Is it possible to use a degreaser, dehydrator for nail and eyelash extensions instead of a primer?

The primer is used if an acrylic system is used for extensions, or if the client’s nails are very capricious. There is a naturally very moist nail plate, which is surrounded by a large number of sweat glands. The nail is constantly wet, so even after a short period of time, a large number of detachments appear on it.

The most interesting thing is that such capricious nails must be treated with a degreaser and primer not just once, but several times. There are masters who apply degreaser, dehydrator and primer five times to capricious nails

Is it possible to use a degreaser, dehydrator for nail and eyelash extensions instead of a primer:

  • Many are trying to replace funds with each other. This cannot be done under any circumstances, since the properties of the means are completely different, and the tasks are also different. The fact is that the primer fluffs up the nail plate and scales and prevents the proliferation of pathogenic microflora.
  • Some believe that this is a kind of primer layer, exactly the same as that applied when plastering a wall. A dehydrator and a degreaser also have different purposes.
  • Unlike a degreaser and dehydrator, a primer not only dries out the nail plate. In addition, it fights pathogenic microorganisms. As mentioned above, an acid primer that contains acid is usually worn under the acrylic system.

Other brands

Other effective bases are:

  1. CND Base Coat is an American brand recognized as the reference base for extensions. The price is more expensive than its analogues, but the quality corresponds to the price. The consistency is economical, which allows you to significantly reduce its consumption during application. Thanks to the convenient brush, the job is done quickly and effortlessly.
  2. Beautix UVBase - a French manufacturer ensures long-lasting results of up to 2 weeks. Good wearability of the material, high adhesion, due to which the base does not peel off from the surface of the nail for a long time. The bottle volume is 15 ml, the price is lower than previous analogues. The only drawback is that Beautix UVBase is not recommended for leveling the nail plate.
  3. UNO Rubber Base is a product intended not only for healthy, but also thin nails that are prone to splitting. The base is removed without a grinding machine or a special file. The product evens out the nail plate and is economical, but many women experience discomfort during the drying process.
  4. Vogue nails is a rubber base for further application of gel polish. The product is suitable for French manicure. It is economical due to its thick consistency. Bottle volume – 10 ml.
  5. KLIO is a foundation from a Russian manufacturer with medicinal properties. Thanks to it, nails are strengthened and nourished, the product is compatible with many gel polishes. The price is higher than that of foreign manufacturers.
  6. Bluesky Rubber Cover is a brand from a Chinese manufacturer with a dense consistency. The foundation lasts a long time, the result lasts 3-4 weeks. The product is wear-resistant. Its cost is below average, but the bottle is not stored for a long time - its shelf life after opening is no more than 6 months.
  7. Lianail SOBS-02 - a domestic brand that does not weigh down the nails and is easy to apply due to its fluid structure. The bonder layer is removed with a hard file or mechanical soaking. To even out the nail plate, one layer may not be enough.
  8. TNL BASE GEL - a Korean manufacturer offers a product that has a medicinal and harmless composition, which contains only natural ingredients. The low price of the product is the main advantage. The only drawback is that the consistency is not thick; if applied carelessly, the product flows further than the nail plate.

How to use?

Applying the bond is quite simple, since it is part of the basic preparation of the nail bed for applying gel polish or extensions.

First you need to prepare the necessary consumables and tools, treat them with an antiseptic to ensure complete safety of the technology, and then begin the technique:

  1. Make a steam bath (optional) to soften your nails. To do this, you can add sea salt or essential oil to the water.
  2. Use a file to adjust the shape of the free edge of the manicure. When doing extensions, you need to file down the nail so that there is 1-2 mm of free edge left to fix the shape.
  3. Apply the remover to the cuticle. After a minute, push it away with a pusher or an orange stick, and then cut it off with scissors.
  4. Using a buff, remove the gloss from the surface, walk along the end to remove parts of the nail that have not been completely cut off.
  5. Treat the nail with a degreaser.
  6. Apply primer and let it dry for 15-20 seconds.
  7. Take a little bonder onto your brush and spread it evenly over the nail in one thin layer. If the consistency is thick, you can turn your finger over so that the solution flows towards the center. Dry it in a lamp for a minute.
  8. Perform extensions or decorative coating, following the steps - applying the base, color pigment (1-2 layers), top.
  9. Remove the sticky layer with a cleaner.

The use of a bond does not greatly increase the duration of the session, but on the contrary, it creates an even, smooth coating onto which it is convenient to distribute gel polish or other pigments.

If you neglect the step of applying the product, be prepared for problems to arise during the technology (the dye may apply unevenly) or after it (associated with the premature removal of the manicure from the nail).

Answers to questions from a manicurist

Questions that are usually asked to specialists are: what is the difference between using a primer and a bonder, and what are the risks of refusing one of the products. Manicurists warn that the preparations have completely different qualities, and refusal to use one of them will negatively affect the result of the work.

The primer will reliably protect the nails from damage and bacteria, while the bonder is responsible for the durability of the artificial plate. It is not recommended to replace the preparations with ordinary glue - such experiments will cause rapid wear of the nails.

Manicurists also warn that when starting to build up plates or apply gel polish, you need to study the characteristics and types of products. If the nails are replete with cracks, damage, and delamination, it is better to use acidic compounds that have a beneficial effect on the tissue. Only in the absence of lesions can less aggressive drugs be used.

There are several more questions that arise for inexperienced girls who are starting to do their own nail extensions or apply gel polish for the first time. Let's try to understand them in more detail.

What is a dehydrator, will it replace a primer?

Another drug that you cannot do without when applying gel polish is a dehydrator. The necessary device has several useful qualities - normalization of water balance in tissues, a drying effect, and disinfecting properties.

You cannot do without a dehydrator if the sebaceous glands are too active - active particles quickly remove the greasy film. There are no aggressive ingredients in the composition, so you don't have to worry about irritation or side effects.

If an acid-based primer is used, a dehydrator is not necessary. The only indication is the activity of the glands that produce fat; if the plates are constantly covered with a greasy film, it is better not to risk it and apply a degreasing layer.

Is it possible to do without a primer?

Manicurists warn that you should not try to achieve good results by refusing to apply a primer. If germs and bacteria are allowed to remain under the artificial plate, microorganisms will begin to multiply at high speed, penetrate the tissue, cause damage and even fungal diseases.

Bonder and primer are recommended to be used both when building up artificial plates and before applying gel polish. It is these drugs that determine how long the coating will last.

Is the bonder dried in a lamp?

The basis of the product is a gel that does not dry out on its own in air. It is this substance that determines how effectively the artificial material will adhere to natural fabric.

How to use the drug? There won’t be any particular difficulties - apply the composition using rubbing movements with a thin brush and dry it in a lamp.

When starting a manicure, you should remember that whether you can achieve the desired results depends only on the use of special products and the strict sequence of their application. You should not experiment, try to replace drugs or speed up the process by giving up one of them. Such arbitrariness will lead to unexpected and undesirable results. Time will be wasted - the lifespan of the artificial turf will not exceed several weeks. Another trouble that awaits after mistakes are made is damage to the nails and even fungal diseases.
